BC Social Enterprise Fund: 2006 Grantees
The following social enterprises were selected by the Social Enterprise Fund Advisory Committee for support in 2006. These selections were made upon the basis of a coached business plan that each group developed with the assistance of a BC Social Venture Partner.
The Cleaning Solution - A project of the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Cleaning Solution is a janitorial service managed by and employing people living with mental illness.
Starworks Packaging and Assembly - Starworks is a social enterprise created to employ people with developmental disabilities to perform light labour and assembly work.
Urban Binning Unit - A project of United We Can, the Urban Binning Unit is a cart designed for use by Vancouver’s ‘binners’ – people who collect recyclables for deposit at the United We Can recycling depot, which is managed and operated by residents of the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood.
Xá:ytem - Located one hour east of Vancouver, Xa:ytem is an interpretive centre on the site of a 9000 year old ancient Aboriginal village on the bank of the Fraser River. The project supports economic development within the region, provides new employment opportunities for Native youth, and results in spin-off benefits for all residents of the community.
