Neil Squire Society provides services that enable people with physical disabilities to achieve greater independence through the development, adaptation and use of innovative services and technologies. Neil Squire Solutions is a social enterprise that provides consultation and assessment services to help people with disabilities integrate assistive technologies into their home and workplaces.

Neil Squire Society received business plan coaching and a grant from the Social Enterprise Fund. These funds were used to hire a Director of Business Development to promote and increase the number of consultations and assessments conducted in a move toward a sustainable social enterprise. In spring 2006, the newly hired Director concentrated marketing efforts on increasing the number of referrals from the existing customer base including ICBC, Worksafe, LTD insurers and government supported employment programs. In the first six months of the year, the average number of monthly client referrals increased by approximately 121%.

Next, the Business Manager sought to diversify funding sources. The enterprise secured grants to expand the consultation and assessment services to six hub locations throughout British Columbia, to develop a “one-stop” resource to facilitate opportunities for persons with disabilities leading up to and during the 2010 Winter Olympics, and to provide a demonstration model for providing personal support to people with disabilities through their Personal Supports Centre Program.

Neil Squire Solutions increase earned income marginally and increased the number of people receiving assessments throughout the province by 167%.
