New Grants Process

BC SVP disburses grants throughout a year through our dynamic New Grants Process. This process has gained a reputation in Vancouver’s nonprofit community as a rarely experienced, non-bureaucratic process that is transparent, fair and extremely helpful. It has also proven to be exciting and rewarding for our Partners.

Here’s how it works:
For each grant, participating Partners from the Opportunities Committee pair up to help a shortlisted applicant develop a full funding proposal.

Partners begin by getting to know their applicant’s organization inside and out. They make visits to a group’s facility or delivery site, meet board members and clients, and perform various due diligence tasks such as reviewing financial statements and speaking with community advisers familiar with the organization. Through this process, Partners come to understand why the applicant’s services are important, what their organizational challenges are, and how they could benefit from SVP support. They help the applicant craft a proposal that communicates this information in a compelling way.  If none is available, BCSVP will produce a two to three minute marketing video on behalf of the applicant.  This marketing video will be distributed to our Partnership for viewing.  The applicant is free to use the video however it wishes.

Once the proposals are complete, applicants make a formal presentation to the Opportunities Committee, which then selects one proposal to recommend for funding. The selected Grantee organization then enters into a one to five year engagement with BC SVP, receiving ongoing coaching and support from a Partner team to ensure that they stay on track with their objectives.
