Once upon a time in a far away land called East Vancouver (hey, it's my story) an organization received support from BC SVP. Okay okay, you're busy so the long of the short is this: LDAV discussed with SVP lead partner Praveen (Varshney) the need to create awareness about learning disabilities. Praveen then introduced LDAV to Shafiq Jamal, from James Hogan and Associates.
Since that introduction Shafiq has taken LDAV under his wing and has been working with LDAV to define their message and overall organization presentation. Then one day LDAV discussed with Shafiq the need for a new server at the office (the old one is on its last legs so to speak). Shafiq contacted a colleague at Future Shop, the manager of Community Relations, who donated gift certificates so LDAV could buy a new computer.
LDAV spoke with the Manager of Community Relations and discussed opportunities for volunteers from Future Shop to come work with LDAV children plus LDAV offered to provide a workshop about learning disabilities to Future Shop supervisors/employees. LDAV also discussed the desire for some of their kids to go by bus to Vancouver Aquarium because, believe it or not, some kids in east Vancouver have never seen the ocean.
Future Shop showed strong interest in sending volunteers to work with children at LDAV and in training their own staff about learning disabilities - and maybe even sending some kids to Vancouver Aquarium.
The beginning...
You have asked me a couple of times to describe how SVP benefited LDAV and I've responded by saying it's so hard to explain - well this little story is just one example of the numerous benefits we have received since becoming a beneficiary of SVP.
